FIRST GRASS GOLF COURSE IN KUWAIT WELCOMES FIRST GOLFERS

 

Sahara Golf & Country Club Opens for Play

 

Sahara Golf & Country Club, Kuwait’s first grass golf course, has welcomed its first golfers. The Peter Harradine designed golf course, which is managed by PGA Golf Management, provides Kuwait with a world class golf and leisure facility.

Mr Abdul Rahman Bahman, Chairperson and Managing Director of the owning company stated “We are providing world class facilities at Sahara Golf & Country Club and are firmly putting Kuwait onto the golfing map. I am delighted to finally see our vision become reality and welcome golfers to Sahara Golf & Country Club”. Mr Bahman added “With the international and regional experience of PGA Golf Management, we will also provide world class service standards and are sure the club will be a great success and continue to change the perception of Kuwait to visitors and companies”.

PGA Golf Management have been appointed by the owners of Sahara Golf & Country Club in Kuwait, to manage the opening and ongoing operations of Kuwait’s first grass course and country club. Keith Haslam, Operations Director for PGA Golf Management commented “We are delighted to be managing Sahara Golf & Country Club. The golf course, academy and clubhouse have been designed and built to the highest of standards and will undoubtedly be Kuwait’s premier leisure facility. It is fantastic to see the golfers of Kuwait enjoying this excellent facility”.

Sahara Golf and Country Club includes an 18 hole, 6,700 yard, par 70 championship golf course designed by Peter Harradine and will be fully floodlit for night golf. A Golf Academy will allow PGA Golf Management to create initiatives to help develop the game of golf in the region. The golf course and academy are now open, with the luxury 8,000 square metre clubhouse opening in the New Year. Along with a well appointed golf and leisure retail shop luxury changing facilities, the Club provides ladies only health and fitness facilities as well as mixed facilities. Racquet sports are also available with tennis and squash courts. There are also a number of food and beverage outlets and small business centre for the anticipated corporate clientele.

The contract is the second for PGA Golf Management in the region, as they also provide management services to Riffa Golf Club in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Riffa Golf Club was also the first grass golf course in Bahrain and to capitalise on this experience, the management of Sahara Golf & Country Club will be done in conjunction with the senior team at Riffa Golf Club.

“It is a very exciting opportunity for us,” said Michael Braidwood, General Manager of Riffa Golf Club. “Sahara Golf and Country Club has a very similar set up to our own Club and the experiences we bring with us from Riffa will be very valuable to the club’s owners.”
