St Andrews Links Golf Acafemy Strengthen Instruction Team

The latest addition to the instruction team at St Andrews Links Golf Academy is a well known face in St Andrews who has worked on both sides of the pond.

David Armitage, a 25-year-old who originally arrived in St Andrews in 2001, has gained valuable teaching experience abroad, including at 2004 USPGA venue Whistling Straits and at Blackwolf Run, where the Ryder Cup will be held in 2020. His most recent role was assistant professional at the Duke’s Course in St Andrews.

One of the few people in the world to achieve membership of both the British and US Professional Golfers Associations, David is the third member of the PGAGM team which provides expert instruction at the academy. David takes over from Simon Plumb who has been appointed head professional at Sandford Springs, Hampshire

‘It is really pleasing to be able to work on the Links,’ said David. ‘The facilities at St Andrews have improved enormously over the years and I can’t wait to make a contribution to the future development of the academy.’

Steve North, director of instruction at St Andrews Links Golf Academy, was delighted with the new appointment.

‘David can communicate his ideas to golfers of all abilities which is crucial in St Andrews, where players from all over the world are welcome. His enthusiasm for St Andrews allied to his international outlook is a perfect combination.’

Alan McGregor, general manager of the Links Trust, said: ‘St Andrews Links Golf Academy offers world class coaching to the public. The instructors have experience of teaching all over the globe and David Armitage is a wonderful addition to the team.’
